Research themes

What PGNI's research is organized around

01. Applied precision medicine & clinical implementation

How genetic variation shapes individual drug response, and how that evidence moves into real prescribing workflows — test ordering, interpretation, point-of-care decision support, and validation of dose-prediction models.

02. Artificial intelligence in pharmacogenomics

Applying computational and machine learning methods to pharmacogenomic data, including the consent and governance questions that use raises.

03. Green Pharmacogenomics & Sustainable Medicines

Using pharmacogenomic evidence to reduce medication waste and the environmental footprint of prescribing.

04. Health equity & underserved populations

Identifying and addressing the structural, economic, and geographic barriers that determine who benefits from precision prescribing, with research designed for underserved and underrepresented communities.

05. Nutrigenomics & Epigenomics

How nutrients, herbal products, and epigenetic regulation interact with genetic variation to shape drug response.

06. Pharmacovigilance & drug safety

Using pharmacogenomic evidence to anticipate and reduce adverse drug reactions and to make prescribing safer.

07. Population pharmacogenomics & genomic diversity

Characterizing genetic variation across populations, with attention to groups underrepresented in existing pharmacogenomic reference data and clinical guidance.

08. Research ethics & regulatory science

The ethical infrastructure and regulatory pathways — informed consent, data governance, IRB review, FDA and international frameworks — that pharmacogenomic research depends on.

09. Toxicogenomics

Understanding how genetic variation shapes individual susceptibility to drug toxicity.

Research partnerships

PGNI welcomes research collaboration and externally funded research

PGNI develops research programs around the themes above and works with partners who share its focus on pharmacogenomics and equitable access. Investigators, institutions, sponsors, and funders are invited to collaborate.

Research pipeline

From training to real research

PGNI's courses and fellowship program take participants from learning pharmacogenomics to carrying out a real research project, from question to results. PGNI alumni can go on to become Affiliated Researchers with ongoing access to PGNI's IRB.
